St. Petersburg Open 2019

The ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) International Tennis Tournament St. Petersburg Open 2019 has come to a close. The event’s main sponsor was Gazprom Export LLC. Starting from September 16, the courts of The Sibur Arena Concert and Sports Complex hosted a series of singles and doubles matches over the course of a week.

The contestants, who came from 20 countries, included many celebrities and, in particular, two Russian players from the top 10 of the ATP world ranking – Karen Khachanov (ranked No. 9) and Daniil Medvedev (ranked No. 4). Other players included the US Open 2019 semifinalist Matteo Berrettini (ranked No. 13), winner of two ATP tournaments Borna Ćorić from Croatia (ranked No. 15), and three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland (ranked No. 19).

The doubles competition was won by Divij Sharan from India and Igor Zelenay from Slovakia, who beat the Italians Simone Bolelli and Matteo Berrettini in the final.

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev won the singles crown and became the tournament’s champion. Medvedev confidently defeated Croatia’s Borna Ćorić in the final that lasted 1h 15m and ended with a score of 6:3, 6:1. For Medvedev it was the sixth title in his career and the third one in 2019.

The final in St. Petersburg was the  fifth one this season for the 23-year-old player.

As has become traditional, the tournament ended with a spectacular show and the award ceremony.
