The Hermitage Gathers Friends!

To mark UNESCO’s annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the State Hermitage Museum hosted a New Year festive season charity event for disabled children on 2 December: “The Hermitage Gathers Friends!”

Over 250 children were able to attend this event: pupils from the No. 616 Dinamika Center and No. 584 Ozerki special correctional schools for children with muscular-skeletal disorders, children from the Petrodvortsovyi District Children’s Home No. 1 and a home for children with various degrees of delayed mental development, as well as other schools. The event was organized by the Bolshaya Medveditsa (Ursa Major) Regional Community Center for Supporting Disabled Children and Orphans and the State Hermitage directorate, with the assistance of OOO Gazprom Export.

The children heard welcome speeches from A.V. Zimin, chief executive of the Bolshaya Medveditsa Association of Community Groups, and Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy rector Nikolai Tsiskaridze, a recipient of the People’s Artist of Russia award.

The children were then treated to a thematic excursion through the main halls of the State Hermitage and a festive season ballet in the Hermitage Theater, performed by Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy students. In the end, each child received a marvelous present: a decorative edition of The Fairy-Tale Hermitage.
