Gazprom Marketing & Trading Supplied Offsets for First Sakhalin-2 Green LNG Cargo

On October 13, Sakhalin Energy supplied to Toho Gas (Japan) the first cargo of carbon neutral LNG from the Sakhalin-2 project. Gazprom Marketing & Trading Ltd (GM& T), part of the Gazprom Export Group, supplied the certificates to offset the footprint of the cargo.

Under the arrangement with Sakhalin Energy, GM& T provided VCS (Verified Carbon Standards) certificates. “GM& T’s Environmental Products team supports Gazprom Group as well as external customers with their decarbonisation initiatives. We are very pleased to provide Sakhalin Energy and Toho Gas with quality offsets to support them on their journey of achieving climate goals ‘, said Wolfgang Skribot, CEO of Gazprom Marketing and Trading Ltd.

Grand Aniva, the Russian LNG carrier, has arrived with the cargo at the Chita Terminal in Aichi Prefecture (Japan). Toho Gas is going supply this carbon neutral gas to its customers. ‘Successful cooperation with the Asia-Pacific customers and Sakhalin Energy’s work on decarbonising the entire LNG chain from production to final usage of end-users, allows to bring Sakhalin gas supplies to Japan to the next stage, " Sakhalin Energy CEO Roman Dashkov said.
